Timely Topics, High Variety on tap for VEC Annual Meeting

Johnson, Vt – Grid innovations, VEC’s new commitment to cleaner power, a conversation about state policy with Lt. Gov. Molly Gray, and other topics are on the agenda for Vermont Electric Co-op’s Annual Meeting set for May 8. The meeting, entitled An Adaptable Resilient Grid: Teaming up for a Bright Future, will be “packed with a range of timely topics, and offers a great chance to hear what’s ahead,” said Jake Brown, energy services planner at VEC. The meeting, which will be held virtually, will start at 9 am.

VEC Joins Electric Co-ops Across the Country to Recognize Lineworkers

Johnson, Vt – Today marks Lineworker Appreciation Day, celebrated by the nation’s electric cooperatives, and VEC is honoring all its employees who work hard to keep the lights on. “Whether they’re restoring power after a major storm or maintaining the infrastructure critical to our electric system, lineworkers are key to the co-op,” said VEC Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Towne. She also noted that when members see VEC’s blue trucks in the field, they should be reminded there’s also a team of employees behind the scenes, working around the clock to keep the power flowing.

VEC Commits to Carbon-Free Power Supply by 2023

Johnson Vt – Vermont Electric Co-op (VEC) has committed to procuring a zero-carbon-emission power supply by 2023, the co-op announced April 7. “I am proud that our Board of Directors, with strong support from our members, engaged deeply on this topic to boldly commit to 100 percent carbon-free in less than two years,” said VEC Board President Rich Goggin. “We are moving quickly to reduce our impact on climate change, and doing it in a cost-effective manner. Vermont has consistently been a leader in the move toward clean energy, and VEC is stepping up even more.”

Eleven candidates are vying for three seats up for election this year on the board of directors of Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC). Because VEC is a cooperative, members elect local representatives to serve on VEC’s twelve-member board. The three districts with seats up for election this year are District 2, East Zone, and West Zone.

Here’s how it works: a small device developed by Burlington-based Packetized Energy is installed on an electric resistance water heater, enabling it to heat water when electricity is being produced by cleaner and less expensive sources. There’s no change to the supply or availability of hot water.
