Vermont Legislature Marks Lineworker Appreciation Day
Johnson, Vt – The Vermont Legislature marked National Lineworker Appreciation Day on Thursday, April 18 with a concurrent resolution, HCR 217, recognizing the critical role electric lineworkers play in keeping the power flowing to communities across the Green Mountain State. Lineworkers from Vermont Electric Co-op as well as Green Mountain Power and Washington Electric Co-op were greeted by Gov. Phil Scott, and received formal recognition from lawmakers on the floor of the Vermont House.
As Vermonters increasingly rely on electricity – whether for heating their homes, communication and entertainment, doing schoolwork and visiting the doctor via teleconference, or even transportation for those who have chosen electric vehicles – the reliability and the resilience of the electric grid have never been more important.
“Lineworkers are always there to maintain and restore power, often in time-pressured, dangerous and complicated circumstances – in the cold, in the heat, in the dark – as soon as safely possible,” said Andrea Cohen, manager of government affairs and member relations at VEC. “All Vermonters owe them a debt of gratitude,” she said.
