Five Candidates Vying for Three Seats up for Election on the Vermont Electric Co-op Board of Directors

Johnson, VT- Five candidates are contending for three district seats up for election this year on the Board of Directors of the Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC). Two of the districts have uncontested races, while one has three people vying for the single seat.

The district with the contest, District 3, includes the towns of Albany, Craftsbury, Glover, Greensboro, Irasburg, Jay, Lowell, Newport Town, Troy, and Westfield. The candidates seeking that seat are Liz Amsden, Brian Cook and Claude Tougas.

In District 4, which includes Bakersfield, Belvidere, Cambridge, Eden, Fairfax, Fairfield, Fletcher, Hyde Park, Johnson, Morristown, Stowe, and Waterville, the incumbent Mark Woodward is running unopposed.

In District 5, incumbent Charlie Van Winkle is also running unopposed. District 5 towns are Bolton, Essex, Hinesburg, Huntington, Jericho, Milton, Richmond, Shelburne, Starksboro, St. George, Underhill, Westford, and Williston.

VEC members can vote for candidates by mail or online from April 14 to May 7. The election winners will be announced at VEC’s Annual Meeting.

VEC’s Annual Meeting will take place on May 9 at Smugglers’ Notch Resort. VEC members attending the Annual Meeting are invited to a complimentary breakfast starting at 8 a.m. with the meeting starting at 9:30 a.m.

This year’s featured speaker is Kerrick Johnson, the Commissioner of the Department of Public Service who will discuss today's energy trends. There will also be updates from VEC leaders, giveaways, and a door prize raffle. The meeting will wrap up by noon.
