VEC Files Rate Case for 2026

Johnson, Vt - The Vermont Electric Co-op filed a request November 14 with the Vermont Public Utility Commission (PUC) for a 2.99% rate increase, effective January 1, 2026.

Key drivers include:

  • General Operations: Inflation is increasing costs across the organization, including labor, employee benefits and interest on debt.
  • Power Supply & Transmission: These account for about 60% of VEC’s budget and are increasing due to higher market prices, contract costs, and regional transmission requirements.
  • Grid Maintenance & Safety: Essential work like outage response, vegetation management, and system inspections is more expensive due to inflation and supply chain challenges.

Over the past 10 years, VEC’s average annual rate increase has been 2.96%.

VEC members have strategies available to reduce and better understand their energy use. They can use SmartHub, VEC’s online tool, to view their electricity use in one-hour intervals, compare usage over time, and set customized alerts.
