Vermont Electric Co-op to Hold Annual Member Meeting May 10

Johnson, VT – Vermont Electric Co-op's (VEC) electricity procurement strategy will be a key topic at the VEC Annual Member meeting, to be held May 10 at Jay Peak Resort.

The main presentation at the meeting, titled “Navigating a Clean Power Supply,” will examine how and why VEC chooses certain types of power—like wind, solar, natural gas, biomass, and others—from the regional wholesale electricity market keeping both climate-related goals and affordability top-of-mind.

Two of VEC’s electric Ford F150 Lightning pickup trucks will also be on display and the VEC employees who use them for their daily work will be on hand to discuss the vehicles’ features and how they operate in Vermont conditions.

There will also be an update from VEC Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Towne, a Q&A session, and announcement of the results of the VEC Board of Directors election.

“The annual meeting is an opportunity to participate in the governance of the cooperative, discuss future energy goals, and celebrate the values that make co-ops unique,” Towne said. “By attending our annual meeting, you’re not just participating in a business meeting—you’re really part of a local movement that cultivates a secure, productive and healthy future for our kids and grandkids,” she said.

Members who attend will enjoy a complimentary breakfast and giveaways. They will also have the chance to win great prizes, including an electric food smoker courtesy of Downs Rachlin Martin, a battery-powered “weed whacker” donated by Efficiency Vermont, as well as gift cards and certificates to local and national chain stores, and more.

The event starts at 8 am with breakfast and table displays showcasing a range of VEC programs. The formal part of the meeting runs from 9:30 to about 11.
